Dr. Debajyoti De is an experimental physicist specializing in soft condensed matter physics and biophysics. He holds a Ph.D. in Soft Condensed Matter and Biophysics from the Department of Physics, IIT Kharagpur. He obtained his Master's degree in Physics from Visva-Bharati University and his Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Burdwan. His academic training combines the fundamental principles of physics, including quantum mechanics and statistical physics, with modern approaches to understanding complex biological systems.
Prior to joining Alliance University as an Assistant Professor, Dr. De served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at TIFR Hyderabad. He also worked as an Assistant Professor of Physics at MAEER's MIT, Thane.
Dr. De's research lies at the interface of soft condensed matter physics and biophysics. His work focuses on understanding the structure, dynamics, and conformational behaviour of biomolecular systems across a wide range of timescales using advanced spectroscopic and scattering techniques. His primary expertise is in biomolecular NMR spectroscopy, complemented by light scattering, circular dichroism, fluorescence spectroscopy, and other biophysical methods. He is also interested in exploring interdisciplinary applications of quantum science and artificial intelligence to complex problems in physics and biomolecular systems.
Dr. De has authored several research articles in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, ACS Applied Bio Materials, and Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics. He has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences and has collaborated with researchers across India, Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom. As an educator, he is committed to concept-driven, student-centred teaching that integrates theory with experimental practice. He actively promotes interdisciplinary learning and aims to inspire students to apply the principles of physics while fostering connections between quantum science, artificial intelligence, biology, and materials science, thereby contributing to a strong research culture in higher education.
